Munro revealed a special edition of their MK_1 fully electric off-roader, designed for the needs of the Mountain Rescue and Fire Services teams. The model received a few modifications in order to be fit for the purpose, of “reaching casualties and wildfires in remote and challenging terrain”.

Unlike similar builds from other companies, the Munro MK_1 Rescue Edition has minimal changes over the donor vehicle which already came with off-road tires and a generous ground clearance. In fact, the only additions to the exterior are the blue LED lights mounted on the rear portion of the roof and the yellow decals on the boxy bodywork.

Munro MK_1 Mountain Rescue Edition Will Silently Save You If Your Adventure Trip Goes Wrong

The interior has been tweaked to accommodate a stretcher and an emergency kit, alongside three other passengers. The kit bags and stretcher were supplied by an outdoor equipment company called Lyon. Munro says that the special edition was designed with the consultation of Scottish, English, and Welsh mountain rescue teams as well as various regional Fire Services.

The fully electric powertrain remains unchanged over the standard MK_1. This means that the single electric motor produces the same 375 hp (280 kW / 381 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque, accelerating the brick-shaped vehicle from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 4.9 seconds. Energy is sourced from an 82 kWh battery pack, allowing a range of more than 190 miles (306 km) or up to 16 hours of off-road operation which should be enough for a rescue mission.

Munro is offering SUV and Pickup versions of the MK_1, priced from £49,995 ($61,877) before taxes in the UK market. The company claims that its EVs can achieve 50 years of service if routine maintenance and planned refurbishment work are followed.
